Essential Questions

I will be finishing up a unit for Of Mice and Men

The essential questions will be:

Is "justice" always fair when it comes to crime and punishment?

How does power affect our ability to make decisions?

Is money and privilege the root of all evil?

  1. These are all interesting questions. I wonder what type of activities could surround these or what kinds of lessons you would make to follow these questions.

  4. Good questions. Taking it even larger? What does it mean to be just? What are the qualities that an effective judge would need?

    How does one gain power?

  6. Your questions would match perfectly with the Macbeth unit that I just finished! The concepts of power and absolute power corrupting absolutely are great debate items for teenagers! I've gotten some great discussions and papers from those very ideas :)

  7. Natalie, I'm actually using these questions for a Socratic seminar and a silent dialogue. They're both activities that focus on student centered and engineered discussion. This is the time of the year that I try to get them away from looking to me for answers and get them looking to each other.
